WELCOME: (a) ceremony
September, 2021
Stam Europa, Bruxelles
“WELCOME: (a) ceremony” existed as an exhibition and a series of performative episodes stretching between June and September 2021 on the second floor of an unoccupied building in the European quarter in Brussels. Scripted as ritual, it searched in intimacy and in its surrogates a tool for collectivity. Staged in the abstraction of a domestic space, the exhibition unfolded in four acts, marked by different states of intimacies, which became the pretext for an unconsciously shared collective ceremony. The process of scenographic spatial design evolved in a constant dialogue with the performative world, engaging actively with the topic of visitors’ involvement and physically transforming with it.
It was designed and built by collective Every Island and open for visits on 13 occasions, for four different appropriations.
